Structural Surveys & Reports in Uttoxeter and Staffordshire

Cracks in your walls can be worrying, especially if you're buying, selling or insuring a home. A structural survey from a chartered engineer tells you what is causing the problem, whether it is still moving, and what needs to be done about it.

When you might need a structural survey

  • Cracks in walls or ceilings, especially around doors and windows

  • Doors or windows that have started to stick

  • Suspected subsidence, heave or settlement

  • A mortgage lender, insurer or homebuyer's survey asking for an engineer's opinion

  • Bulging walls, sagging roofs or damaged lintels

What's included

We inspect the property, record the cracking and any distortion, and look at the factors that commonly cause movement: trees, drainage, ground conditions and past alterations. You receive a clear written report explaining the cause, how serious it is, and our recommendations for repair or monitoring.

Why JGL

We are chartered members of the Institution of Civil Engineers with a strong background in subsidence and foundation repair. Our reports are written to be understood by homeowners as well as insurers and builders.

Frequently asked questions

Are cracks in my walls serious?
Many are cosmetic, caused by shrinkage or temperature changes. Cracks wider than a few millimetres, cracks that keep growing, or diagonal cracks from window corners should be looked at by an engineer.

What's the difference between a structural survey and a homebuyer's survey?
A homebuyer's survey flags possible issues. A structural engineer's survey investigates a specific problem in depth and recommends a repair.

Which areas do you cover?
Uttoxeter and across Staffordshire and Derbyshire, including Stoke-on-Trent, Stafford, Burton upon Trent, Derby, Lichfield, Cheadle, Ashbourne and Leek.
